Simplify Life - Health

A day in November, 1922 was when a physicist staying at the Tokyo Imperial hotel doesn't have a money to tip a bellboy wrote, “A calm and modest life brings more happiness than the pursuit of success combined with constant restlessness" in a stationary.

Let that note sink in for a moment.

Now examine yourself:

  • Do you have a backache?
  • How is your heart condition?
  • What is your blood pressure?
  • How about stomach ailments?
  • Other health problems?

Check further:

  • Do you have an overloaded calendar?
  • Did you distance yourself from personal difficulties? How about professional difficulties?
  • When was your last vacation?
  • Did you spend time with your spouse? Children?
  • Did you share your problems?
  • What are you trying to achieve?
  • Is having more really make you happy?

Piece of advice for a stress-free life:

Slow down, breath deeply and focus on the present.

Rest. Re-energize. Revitalize. Renew.

Eat well. Have a good deep sleep. Exercise daily.

Eat well

Healthy mind and body results from balanced diet with increase your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables and decrease on meat, refined sugars and junk foods.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and eat some snacks in between.

Avoid heavy dinner meals as you rest for the night will not burn the calories intake during sleeping.

Drink about 8 glasses of water and avoid soda.

Make sure the water is low in acidity. The pH of pure water is 7. In general, water with a pH lower than 7 is considered acidic, and with a pH greater than 7 is considered basic.  Acidity is one of cause of body ailments. You can search online for pH testing kit to test your water, then you can buy water filtering system.

If coffee is part of your day, switch to healthy coffee that has weight loss ingredients.  Javita coffee is infused with herbs to help speed up your body’s fat-burning processes and help you control your appetite.

Good Deep Sleep

To live happy, and to perform to our best, a sleep at least seven hours each night and nap during the day is needed.

Less sleep contributes to obesity and diabetes, and some form of allergies and ailments including depression, and even stroke.

Less sleep affects the hormone and insulin sensitivity in a negative way.

Less sleep affects the appetite and will add more body fats throughout the year.

Tips to a good deep sleep:

  • No TV and Electronics in the room.
  • Quality bed and mattress
  • Adequate bed size to move around
  • Completely dark room

According to American Academy of Ophthalmology, blue light does affect the body’s circadian rhythm, our natural wake and sleep cycle. During the day, blue light wakes us up and stimulates us. But too much blue light exposure late at night from your phone, tablet or computer can make it harder to get to sleep.

It is recommended that you try to limit your screen time in the two to three hours before you go to bed. Many devices have nighttime settings that minimize blue light exposure in the evenings.

You may use a blue light blocking glasses that you can purchase online.

If you can afford to spend for a sleep product, try looking into Nikken Kenko System which increase relaxation and support a variety of physical and mental functions for restful and restorative sleep.

Exercise Daily

At least 30 minutes of daily exercise will help keep you well. For many of us with kids and career, it is difficult to go to the gym or use our personal thread mill.

In my case, I embed my exercise while at work, and when possible I walk up and down stairs. After lunch, I walk from the ground floor to 3rd floor of the building, then back to my cube.

My Samsung Gear watch tracks the number of steps and calories burn throughout the day. I think Apple watch has the same feature. I can monitor my calorie burn in my watch, so I would need walk more if needed. An average person, would eat about 2000 to 2500 calories per day, so I would burn the same as much.

Tips to embed exercise to your daily routine:

  • Park your car little further.
  • Buy a Samsung Gear or Apple watch. The app will remind you to stand up or twist your torso if you’re sitting for too long. And this happens when you are so focused on what you are doing at your desk.
  • Owning a dog will oblige you to walk. And your pet will definitely be excited to walk with you.

Exercise helps your body to release beta-endorphins, a chemical that drives ease pain, and makes you happy.

“A calm and modest life brings more happiness than the pursuit of success combined with constant restlessness” is the Theory of Happiness by Albert Einstein.
